Louis sayings

Louis and I had this conversation a few weeks ago....

Louis had done something, I don't really remember what.... but I had told him what a smart kid he was.

Louis: Wow mom. Smart and handsome. Being smart is awesome and well, being handsome. That's just....perfect.

Seriously.

Just tonight at dinner this happened.

Me:Louis how was your field trip to the planetarium?

Louis: IT WAS SO AWESOME!!!(continues to talk about it for like 20 minutes blah, blah, blah)....and then they showed us this thing (?) that had the density of like 10 thousand pounds. (not really sure what the thing was or exactly what he was getting at but....) No one can lift that much. Not me, not a teenager, not you....the only person who could lift that is....John Denver. The strongest man in the world. Uh....what just happened? All of the sudden I feel the need to sing "Rocky Mountain High" and lift weights. Somewhere the lines were crossed there. OH well. Long live John Denver.

I absolutely love the Olympics. I don't know why....well, I do know why but...I don't know when it started. I remember when I was a little girl and the Olympics came on t.v. I always loved watching all of the different sports and seeing the athletes compete. It was so much fun, such a fond memory. The movie Cool Runnings comes to mind :) As the Olympics start this year, I find myself loving them for a different reason. I get emotional every time a commercial comes on about them, when a story is run about an athlete, anything to do with the Olympics. I was trying to figure out what made me emotional. I think I feel a bunch of different emotions. I love the competition, to find out who is the best of the best. I feel for the athletes, to think of how much of their lives they have put on the line, how much hard work and dedication they have put into this one (or more) sport. I feel for the parents watching their children compete. For how much the family and parents have sacrificed for the athlete, how much they feel the pride and the love for that person. I feel the love of my country. I feel very patriotic, I find myself to be a very patriotic person normally, but sometimes I cry as I think of the people that have sacrificed their lives and so much for our freedoms and for all that we enjoy. I feel for the winners. What a fabulous moment. What a dream of a lifetime. Really...can you imagine being on the podium and having that medal around your neck and hearing the national anthem and knowing that all that you have done, all of that hard work has finally paid off. I also feel very deeply for the losers. For how much they have done as well. They might have worked harder, sacrificed more and fought harder and didn't receive the recognition. I just find it to be a very emotional experience and I am really sad that we will be out of the country for half of the Olympics. Now...don't get me wrong...I'm not sad we're leaving :) I'm just sad that I am missing those moments. I hope that this year, I can watch it with my kids and teach them a little more about hard work and dedication and sacrifice. I hope.

This is my new favorite thing.

It's called myfitnesspal.com

It's basically just a calorie counter and an exercise tracker. It's free and you just enter your meals and how much you exercise and your weight loss goal and it tells you how many calories you need to eat each day and how long it will take you to reach your goal. It's my new best friend. It's amazing how much you think about what you're putting in your mouth when you have to track what you're eating. That's the part that I think works the best for me, just being conscious of what I'm eating.

Okay, that is all. ( I need to start charging a 'sponsor' fee!!)

I love family!! We have the best one!! All of them!!! Thank you all for making this such a special day for Lou!!

Kennedy's Fun Times At School

Last week Kennedy had the chance to attend Space Camp at the "Krista McAulliffe Space Center" in Pleasant Grove, Utah. She was beyond excited and really just had the best time!!! She took her position as "Right/Left Damage Control Officer" VERY SERIOUSLY!!!! I mean.serious.as.serious. She was very into it and answered all of the questions quickly and correct. She even knew more than the captain about their mission on the "Federation". Seriously funny to watch! As they were about to crash she almost had a panic attack and I had to whisper really loudly to relax and it was just pretend. She's a pretty funny kid!!!!

Two weeks ago she had the chance to do a Science Fair Project. She was totally into it!!! She took her time and thought very seriously about what she wanted to experiment on. After going over and over a list we found on the Internet (I'm not very creative!!!!) She decided to do "Bubbles: What effect do different substances have on bubble solution". She is quite the student, she went all out. We spent lots of time doing her experiment and putting her poster together (thank you Cricut!!!). She took samples of all of the solutions she created and let each of the kids in line blow bubbles in her face (she knows how to work a crowd!!!) There were probably about 30 different projects on display and a random person here or there looking around and a line of about 30 kids at Kennedy's display. She did an amazingly awesome job! I am so proud of her!!!

Explaining what she did and telling them about what she found out. Just in case you were wondering, Karo syrup doesn't make great bubbles...hehe!!!

The Most Stressfree Birthday EvEr!!!!

Let me start off this post by saying OY!!!! I am so.over.celebrations. Don't get me wrong, I love a good party!! I actually like entertaining people, cooking my guts out and enjoying a nice time with family or friends or both!!! I actually really love it. But, come on!!!! I am counting down the days until our cruise (for more reasons than this)...just so I don't have to cook, clean or even have a functioning brain for at least a week :)

On to Louis' birthday party. I'm trying to play catch-up here, so hang on!!!!

We went to Fat Cats this year for his party. I have always wanted to do a "destination" party (sort of like a destination wedding, but cheaper and way more fun) but never could rationalize the cost. This year I was stressed to the max (not a new thing!!!!) and wasn't up for hosting a party so I began researching places to throw birthday parties. I could not believe how incredibly affordable Fat Cats was. Seriously. Once you buy all of the party favors, plan the games, buy the balloons...you know the drill. Well, this came in WAY under what I usually spend for a kiddos party. I kind of feel like I should be getting paid, here!!!! They provided this: bowling for 90 minutes, dinner for all of the kids, tokens to play the arcade games, drinks, balloons and table decorations....all for the price of the party. It was so stinkin' awesome!!!! Needless to say, I think I may be hooked. I may never host a birthday party again!!!!!!! And I don't feel bad one little bit!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Happy 8th birthday Louis! Hope you had a great one!!
